Elva Malin
Elva Malin was born in Aberdeen, Idaho and now resides in Salt Lake City, Utah. Elva has studied at the University of Utah and with many prominent Salt Lake artists, including Ken Baxter, Dan Baxter, and Paul Forster.
Malin has developed into an artist whose unique and touching vision has evolved in harmony with her philosophy and attitude. Her philosophy is one of discipline and determination; her attitude, one of discovery. "If I'm not painting, I'm thinking about it. I'm always realizing more, seeing more," says Malin. Elva is a landscape painter. Growing up in a rural environment gave her a great appreciation for her surroundings. Living in Utah provides an endless supply of subject matter and the excitement of trying to express her love for the vast variety of scenery. According to Elva, "Artists create emotion. When I look at something and get excited I must get that excitement across in the painting to be successful. Early morning or late afternoon twilight changes the landscape quickly, as do cloud covers and storms. This is why painting the Utah landscapes is such a challenge. The changing seasons are a continual source of excitement, making me realize how fortunate I am to live in Utah.
Exhibition credits include several local and national art shows. The Charles Russell Auction, Springville National April Salon, Zions Bank Show and the Deseret News Art Show have been some of these. The awards have been many. Her works are also found in many private and corporate collections. Elva's works are currently displayed at the Williams Fine Art, Salt Lake City Utah, Apple Frame Gallery, Boutiful Utah, Brownstone Gallery, Provo Utah and Authentique Gallery, St. George Utah.
