PLEIN AIR PAINTING

The five painting blocks on the schedule include travel time to the locations. Your group of attendees will rendezvous with one of the faculty teams (with 3-4 instructors) at a specific location in beautiful Heber valley. You will paint at 5 gorgeous fall locations in order to meet the entire faculty over the 3 days. At least one faculty member of each team will demonstrate en plein air for those who wish to watch a demonstration, and the other faculty members will coach those who want to set up and paint. If you wish to have coaching from one of the faculty members while on site, simply display your flag that you were provided at check-in.

ART SUPPLIES

There are numerous supplies and equipment and a wide variety of painting approaches. PAPU artist and instructor Bonnie Posselli has given us her list for you to use as a guide if you wish. It is focused on oil painting. Bonnie is a veteran painting teacher from Salt Lake City.

Click here for Bonnie’s supply list.

NOVICE PAINTERS

The novice group will gather for special training and move from team to team. Novice painters will learn together because the coaching will be keyed to your specific needs. If you prefer to paint with intermediate and advanced painters, you are welcome to. However, we recommend the novice group for ease of learning.

WATERCOLOR

Tom Howard and Becky Hartvigsen will lead this specialized group of watercolorists to the fields to paint en plein air. You may opt to focus exclusively with this group and medium. Tom is hand picking sites for watercolor demonstrations and painting sessions.

WET PAINT SALE & EXHIBIT - PREPARATION AND RULES

Two pieces maximum per participant.  No pieces larger than 18x24, not including mat and frame.

Artwork must be framed and ready for hanging as shown in the schedule above. Note: there will be a vendor with frames available on site.

You will need to fill out an “Art Sign-In Sheet & Release Form” when you submit your pieces. Please remember to include sales tax and the 20% commission when establishing a price for your artwork.

Sale and Exhibit Hours: Saturday, Sept. 15 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM

At least 90% of the artwork must be produced outdoors in the spirit of plein air.

The Midway Art Association retains 20% of all sales of artwork exhibited during the retreat.  All sales either inside or outside the Town Hall must be processed through the Midway Art Association sales desk.

Checks for the sale of artwork will be mailed to artists shortly after the event. Additionally, any sale made either by agreement with the buyer during the show or through arrangements as a follow up to the show are subject to the same agreement.

The PAU Committee reserves the right to jury out any subject matter unsuitable for the event and to adjust the number of works shown in the event according to available space.

Also on Saturday, the 15th, attendees and faculty are invited to paint out-of-doors on the lawn and around the Town Hall using any appropriate subject matter and reference. Sorry no nudes. This is a great time to meet the art-loving public in Midway, get exposure for your art or just hang out with fellow artists and just enjoy yourself in this relaxed atmosphere. It is an opportunity to sell, hand out cards, make new friends and educate admiring friends to the marvelous tradition of plein air painting. Paint at any or all of the suggested painting times: 10-12noon; 12noon – 2pm; 2-4pm

CHECK-OUT

Check out with us before you leave and turn in your Event Survey. Collect any unsold paintings and sign your paperwork.

ABOUT THE MIDWAY ART ASSOCIATION (MAA)

Midway Art Association

ABOUT PLEIN AIR PAINTERS OF UTAH (PAPU)

Plein Air Painters of Utah has 36 professional artist members who meet once a month to paint at different locations throughout the year. These artists range from being part-time to full-time professional painters who show and sell in galleries and museums. They successfully compete in local and national painting events. Many teach privately and professionally. Read about each PAPU member at www.pleinairpaintersofutah.com. They are dedicated, enthused individuals who want to share their knowledge with you!

Plein Air Painters of Utah

The MAA and PAPU honor art education as an important part of their mission statements, and have teamed up to create an immersion painting experience that is more intimate than a convention, and more valuable than a typical painting workshop or class because of the networking opportunities and benefit of potential sales.
